Organizational matters
The Chairperson, giving an overview of the work completed during the session, said that the Committee had adopted concluding observations on the initial reports of Kyrgyzstan, Peru and Uganda and lists of issues prior to reporting for Honduras, Nicaragua, Niger and Senegal. The Committee’s report to the General Assembly on its twenty-first and twenty-second sessions had been adopted, and work had been carried out on the treaty body strengthening process and working methods, including in relation to the Addis Ababa Guidelines. The general comment on children in the context of migration had been discussed with several United Nations agencies and other partners. The Committee had issued two press releases and one statement and had written to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Union regarding the recent tragedies involving migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. It had also requested a meeting with the High Commissioner during its next session.
A number of meetings had taken place, including on migrant workers in need of international protection with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and on business and human rights with a representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Several tasks were yet to be completed, such as the drafting of a background note on trafficking and smuggling, the arrangement of a meeting with the Holy See during the next session and the adoption of guidelines for specialized agencies.
Closure of the session
After the customary exchange of courtesies, the Chairperson declared the twenty-second session of the Committee closed.
