Annotations

1.Adoption of the agenda

Under rule 9 of the Committee’s rules of procedure, the first item on the provisional agenda for any session shall be the adoption of the agenda, unless the election of officers is required under rule 20. In accordance with rule 10, the Committee may revise the agenda during a session and may, as appropriate, add, defer or delete items.

The provisional agenda for the thirty-fourth session was prepared by the Secretary-General in consultation with the Chair of the Committee, pursuant to rule 8 of the rules of procedure.

2.Organizational matters

The thirty-fourth session of the Committee will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva, in Room XVI at the Palais des Nations, from 9 to 27 March 2026. The 1st meeting of the session will be convened on Monday, 9 March, at 10 a.m. A representative of the Secretary‑General will open the session.

Pursuant to rule 29 of the rules of procedure, the meetings of the Committee shall be held in public, unless otherwise decided by the Committee.

The Committee will consider matters concerning the organization of the thirty-fourth session, in particular the adoption of its programme of work.

3.Report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the thirty-third and thirty‑fourth sessions of the Committee

The Committee will consider the report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the thirty-third and thirty-fourth sessions.

4.Submission of reports by States Parties under article 35 of the Convention

The Committee will be updated on the reports received from States Parties under article 35 of the Convention. As at the time of issuance of the present provisional agenda, the following reports had been received and were pending consideration by the Committee:

5.Consideration of reports submitted by States Parties under article 35 of the Convention

At its thirty-fourth session, the Committee will consider the initial reports of Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, the Marshall Islands, Pakistan and Samoa.

In pursuance of established practice and in conformity with rule 41 of the rules of procedure, the Secretary-General has informed the States Parties concerned of the tentative dates on which their reports have been scheduled for consideration by the Committee. A schedule for the consideration of the reports will be set forth in the tentative programme of work, which will be made available on the web page of the Committee.

6.Cooperation with other United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, organizations of persons with disabilities and other competent bodies

The Committee will discuss how to strengthen cooperation with United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, non-governmental organizations, including organizations of persons with disabilities, and other competent bodies in order to enhance the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, including the empowerment and promotion of the rights of women and girls with disabilities. Representatives of such organizations and bodies may seek to address the Committee.

7.General comments

The Committee will continue its work on drafting general comments on article 11 of the Convention, on situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies, and on article 29, on participation in political and public life. It will also consider its preparation of guidelines on addressing disability-based violence and on identifying and addressing multiple and intersectional discrimination against women with disabilities.

8.Methods of work of the Committee

The Committee will consider its methods of work.

9.Activities under the Optional Protocol to the Convention

The Committee will consider the communications submitted under the Optional Protocol to the Convention. It will also consider matters related to inquiries under the Optional Protocol.

10.Future meetings

The Committee will be informed of any developments relating to its future meetings. It will also consider its future organization of work.

11.Other matters

Members will discuss any other matters relating to the work of the Committee, as considered necessary.

12.Adoption of the report on the thirty-fourth session

Pursuant to rule 38 bis of its rules of procedure, the Committee may consider and adopt the report on its thirty-fourth session.
