1.In accordance with article 72 (4) of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, the seventh meeting of States parties to the Convention is to be held at United Nations Headquarters on 30 June 2015 to elect seven members of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families from a list of candidates nominated by States parties (sect. II), to replace those whose terms are due to expire on 31 December 2015 (sect. I). Seven members will continue to serve on the Committee until 31 December 2017 (sect. III).

Official consultant to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Cabinet of the President; Chairman of the Committee of Experts whose membership includes the Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of the Interior; Chairman of the Committee for Mauritanians Voting Abroad; formerly the special Minister for the Arab Maghreb Union.
Main professional activities
I supervised the civil registration of, and the vote for, Mauritanians living abroad, removing all barriers to their participation in elections. As Chairman of the Committee of Experts, I oversaw the preparation of basic texts related to the vote for Mauritanians living abroad, and in particular the text establishing the electoral districts abroad to ensure transparent elections.
General supervision of various studies and negotiations related to the unification of the Arab Maghreb Union.
Studies
A study of the challenges and prospects of the Arab Maghreb Union for the bolstering of economic integration among those countries; a study related to strengthening the 5+5 Dialogue and the Barcelona Process; a report evaluating the mandate of the Mauritanian chairpersonship of the African Union (diplomatic, political and economic results).

With regard to activities relevant to the mandate of the Committee on Migrant Workers, I have led projects involving immigrants’ right to protection, their right to work and their social integration into the host country; I have worked with the Government — through reflection and awareness-raising — on helping young people to return to their countries of origin by providing them with funds for their social reintegration, as well as self-employment incentives.

Publication of the proceedings of a national symposium on the right of young people and women to work, for the purpose of limiting immigration.
Formulation of a text banning child labour; participation in the drafting of a report to raise awareness about access to schooling for children living in outlying urban areas.

María Landázuri De Mora (Ecuador)

Current position/function
Deputy Minister of Human Mobility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2013 to present), the highest migration authority in Ecuador, responsible for guiding migration policy, developing strategies to protect and assist the Ecuadorian migrant community abroad in defending their rights and obtaining assistance in their countries of residence, and to defend those same rights for citizens of other countries residing in Ecuador.
Main professional activities:
As a member of the diplomatic corps since 2013, she has concentrated on the area of planning, overseeing operational and strategic plans for the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2011; appointed to the Evaluation Committee for diplomatic missions abroad, she was responsible, in 2012, for visits, interviews and reporting on integrated management and the results and impact of the work of diplomatic staff. In 2013, she was the Director of Consular Affairs and Services – the office that designed the procedure for assistance and protection to Ecuadorian migrants in vulnerable situations (which receives direct support from the Ecuadorian Government in the form of human and material resources) and that generated a plan under which Ecuadorian consulates and embassies would oversee the interests of Ecuadorians abroad by working with the Governments of the countries of residence.

She has guided the effective implementation, in Ecuador, of the observations of the Committee on Migrant Workers. She chaired the third Meeting on Migration of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), as representative of the host country, jointly with Costa Rica, Pro Tempore President, in October 2014. At that meeting, the Government of Ecuador invoked the need for a comprehensive protocol for the protection of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents so as to ensure their safety and their rights – a proposal that was adopted unanimously. In 2015, she is responsible for leading the Working Group on South American Citizenship, and firming up regional resolutions for enhancing integration and facilitating the movement of persons.

He completed his studies for the Maestría en Tratados Internacionales (master’s degree in international treaties), as well as a Diplomado en Negociaciones Internacionales (diploma in international negotiations) and a Diplomado en Conciliación (diploma in mediation). He was decorated as Commander of the Peruvian Order of the Sun in honour of his consular work in Santiago, Chile. He was also decorated, by the Government of the State of Acre, Brazil, as Commander of the Order of Rio Branco, in honour of his consular work on the border of Peru and Brazil. He has likewise been decorated by the consular corps of Nicaragua and the Consular Corps of Santiago, Chile, where he was elected Dean in two consecutive years.
He has given courses and lectures on various migration-related topics at universities in Peru and Chile as well as for a number of editions of the Inter-American Course on International Migration of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires.
