Note by the Secretariat

1.The present note is submitted pursuant to resolution 72/175 of the General Assembly, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report to the Assembly at its seventy-fourth session and to the Human Rights Council at its forty-third session on the safety of journalists.

2.Pursuant to the above-mentioned request, the Secretariat refers the Human Rights Council to the report of the Secretary-General, submitted to the General Assembly, on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity (A/74/314). In the report, the Secretary-General provides an overview of the current situation in relation to the safety of journalists and of the action taken at the international, regional and national levels, including by the United Nations, taking into account the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
