Provisional agenda and annotation

Note by the Secretariat*

1.The fourteenth session of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva (Palais Wilson) from 4 to 8 April 2011. The first meeting of the session will be convened on Monday 4 April at 10 a.m.

2.The attached provisional agenda and annotations for the fourteenth session of the Committee have been prepared by the Secretary-General in consultation with the Chairperson of the Committee, in accordance with rule 5 of the Committee’s provisional rules of procedure.

Annotations

1.Opening of the session

The representative of the Secretary-General will open the fourteenth session of the Committee.

2.Adoption of the agenda

Under rule 6 of the Committee’s provisional rules of procedure, the first item on the agenda of any session shall be the adoption of the agenda, unless the election of officers is required under rule 12. In accordance with rule 7, the Committee may revise the agenda during a session and may, as appropriate, defer or delete items.

3.Consideration of reports submitted by States partiesunder article 73 of the Convention

At its fourteenth session, the Committee will consider the second periodic report received from Mexico (CMW/C/MEX/2).

A tentative timetable for the consideration of reports at the fourteenth session, prepared in consultation with the Committee, is indicated below:

5. Promotion of the Convention

Under this item, the Committee will discuss its involvement in and support for various events to continue promoting the Convention, including follow-up on the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Convention.

6. Issues pertaining to the Convention

Under this item, the Committee will explore the possibility of holding a day of general discussion at future sessions on topics related to the Convention.

7. Adoption of the annual report to the General Assembly

In accordance with article 74, paragraph 7, of the Convention, the Committee shall submit an annual report to the General Assembly on the implementation of the Convention.

8. Organizational and other matters

Under this item, the Committee will consider miscellaneous issues relevant to the Committee’s business, including its programme of work, dates for the future sessions of the Committee, methods of work of the Committee, and harmonization of treaty body working methods and other issues arising out of the inter-committee meeting Working Group on Follow-up of the Human Rights Treaty Bodies held in January 2011. The Committee will have before it the report of this meeting.
