Note by the Secretary-General

At its second session, held from 19 to 23 October 2009, the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities decided to adopt the provisional agenda for its third session to be held from 22 to 26 February 2010 at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

In accordance with rule 6 of the draft rules of procedure and the decision of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Secretary-General has prepared the provisional agenda for the session.

Pursuant to rule 25 of its draft rules of procedure, the meetings of the Committee shall be held in public, unless otherwise decided by the Committee.

The attention of the Committee is drawn, in particular, to the annotations to items 4 to 7 regarding inter-sessionalactivities, the approval of the core documents of the Committee and the establishment of working groups.

Adoption of the report of the second session of the Committee .

ANNOTATIONS

Item 1

In accordance with rule 8 of its draft rules of procedure, the Committee may revise the agenda and may, as appropriate, add, defer or delete items.

Item 2

Under this item, the Committee will discuss and approve the report of its second session.

Item 3

Under this item, the Committee will discuss and approve the report of the Chairperson on activities undertaken between the second and third sessions.

Item 4

Under this item, the Committee will discuss and approve its core documents: the draft working methods and the rules of procedure as prepared by the working groups of the Committee.

Item 5

Under this item, the Committee will receive explanations from the relevant Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) entities on the decisions taken in previous sessions.

Item 6

Under this item, the Committee will discuss the results of the day of general discussions on article 12 and decide on the way forward (establish a working group to work on a draft general recommendations or draft general comments). It will also start preparations for the second day of general discussions for the fall 2010 session (to define the subject, and establish a working group to work with the secretariat on the documents)

Item 7

Under this item, the Committee will discuss proposals for the provisional agenda for its fourth session.

Item 8

Under this item, the Committee will discuss such other matters relating to its work as may be necessary.
