Managing Director of the Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation (BGRF), since 1998; Director of the Women’ s Human Rights Training Institute (since 2004), a regional educational initiative for teaching lawyers from Eastern Europe in litigation skills and partnership initiative of the BGRF, the Centre for Reproductive Rights (New York, USA) and the Network of East-West Women (Gdansk, Poland): including teaching on the CEDAW Convention and practice; Chair of the Bulgarian Alliance for Protection against Domestic Violence (since 2009). Member of the European Network of Independent Legal Experts in the Field of Gender Equality (since 2004).

Main professional activities

Overall management, coordination of staff and representation of the BGRF, of the Women’s Human Rights Training Institute (WHRTI), and of the Alliance for Protection against Domestic Violence; Monitoring and analysing the compatibility of human rights and gender equality legislation and policy with European and universal standards. Coordination and drafting of civil society shadow reports to the United Nations treaty bodies and other mechanisms (CEDAW, HRC, CESCR, Universal Periodic Review). Main focus areas: violence against women and girls, trafficking in women, socioeconomic rights of women more in general, access to justice for women, due diligence, temporary special measures, gender stereotyping. Lecturing and training of lawyers in the framework of the WHRTI and the Training Centre on Prevention of Violence of the Alliance for Protection against Domestic Violence. Supporting and bringing strategic cases on women’s rights before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and under the Optional Protocol to CEDAW.

Preparing and presenting alternative NGO reports before the CEDAW Committee (attending the sessions in February 1998 and July 2012).
