List of issues to be taken up in connection with the consideration
of the initial report of the Republic of Moldova (CRC/C/OPAC/MDA/1)
The State party is requested to submit in written form additional and updated information, if possible, before 24 November 2008.
Please provide information on the competent governmental departments and bodies responsible for the implementation of the Optional Protocol and their coordination with regional and local authorities as well as with civil society. Please also indicate whether there is any mechanism available for monitoring and periodically evaluating its implementation, such as the National Human Rights Centre.
Please clarify the content of the rules of “military evidence”, referred to in paragraph 20 of the State party’s report, which apply to Moldovan male citizens that having reached 16 years old should register for conscription at their respective local territorial military office.
Please provide detailed information as to whether the Republic of Moldova assumes extraterritorial jurisdiction in case of forced recruitment or involvement in hostilities of a person under 18 if committed outside Moldova, by or against a Moldovan.
Please provide disaggregated data (e.g., by sex, age, region, rural/urban areas) on the students attending military schools operated by or under the control of the

armed forces and on their right to leave such schools at any time and not to pursue a military career. Please also inform the Committee on the proportions of academic education and military training in the curricula, the length of education and whether students are subject to military law.
Please provide disaggregated data (including by sex, age and country of origin) covering the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 on the number of asylum-seeking and refugee children coming to the Republic of Moldova from areas where children may have been recruited or used in hostilities. In this respect, please also provide information on measures adopted with regard to physical and psychological recovery and social reintegration of refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children entering the Republic of Moldova who may have been recruited or used in hostilities abroad.
Please inform the Committee whether national legislation prohibits the sale of arms when the final destination is a country where children are known to be, or may potentially be, recruited or used in hostilities.
