In the absence of Ms. Gabr, Ms. Zou Xiaoqiao, Vice-Chairperson, took the Chair.

The meeting was called to order at 4.25 p.m.

Adoption of the report of the Committee on its forty‑sixth session (CEDAW/C/2010/II/L.1, CEDAW/C/ALB/CO/3, CEDAW/C/ARG/CO/6, CEDAW/C/AUL/CO/7, CEDAW/C/FJI/CO/4, CEDAW/C/PNG/CO/3, CEDAW/C/USR/CO/7, CEDAW/C/TUR/CO/6)

1.Ms. Neubauer (Rapporteur) introduced document CEDAW/C/2010/II/L.1, containing sections of the Committee’s draft report, and the conference room papers containing its concluding observations, as amended, on the seven reports by States parties that it had considered during the session.

2.The Chairperson said that she took it that the Committee wished to adopt the sections of the draft report contained in document CEDAW/C/2010/II/L.1 and the conference room papers just mentioned.

3.It was so decided.

4.Ms. Neubauer (Rapporteur) introduced the draft report of the Working Group of the Whole (CEDAW/C/2010/II/CRP.1), which described the actions taken by the Committee under items 5 and 6 of the provisional agenda (CEDAW/C/2010/II/1).

5.The Chairperson said that she took it that the Committee wished to adopt the draft report of the Working Group of the Whole, as amended, for inclusion in the Committee’s draft report as its report on agenda items 5 and 6.

6.It was so decided.

7.The draft report of the Committee on its forty ‑ sixth session was adopted as a whole, as amended, subject to finalization by the Rapporteur.

Provisional agenda for the forty-seventh session

8.Ms. Neubauer (Rapporteur) drew attention to the provisional agenda for the forty-seventh session, which was to be found in Chapter VIII in the report of the Working Group of the Whole.

9.The provisional agenda for the forty-seventh session was adopted.

Statement by the Chairperson

10.The Chairperson said that the Committee had considered the reports of seven States parties, including one presenting its initial report. During the constructive dialogue, the Committee had been informed about revisions to marriage and family laws, protection of women’s employment rights, new initiatives to enhance educational opportunities for women and girls, the elimination of stereotypes and the participation of women in public life, as well as significant steps States were taking to address violence against women. At the same time, discrimination against women continued in relation to the many substantive provisions of the Convention. She urged States parties to ensure that the concluding observations were discussed in Parliament and that the next periodic reports should be made available to Parliament and all ministries.

11.She expressed appreciation for the detailed information provided by United Nations entities and NGOs, and encouraged them to deepen their advocacy for the promotion and protection of women’s human rights and implementation of the Convention. Very fruitful meetings had been held with the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, the Human Rights Adviser of the United Nations Development Fund for Women and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

12.The Committee had also continued its discussions on the draft general recommendations on older women, on the economic consequences of divorce and on article 2 of the Convention. It had also adopted a statement on the tenth anniversary of Security Council resolution 1325 (2000).

Closure of the session

13.After an exchange of courtesies, the Chairperson declared the forty-sixth session closed.
