The second (public) part of the meeting was called to order at 11.35 a .m.

Commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp

1. At the invitation of the Chairperson, a minute ’ s silence was held to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp and to pay tribute to all of the victims of the Second World War.

Adoption of the report of the Committee on its thirty-eighth session (CRC/C/146)

2.The Chairperson invited the members of the Committee to consider Chapter I (Organizational and other matters), Chapter III (Cooperation with United Nations and other competent bodies), Chapter IV (Future day of general discussion), Chapter V (Follow-up activities), Chapter VI (General comments) and Chapter VII (Provisional agenda for the thirty-ninth session).

3. Chapters I, III, IV, V, VI and VII were adopted.

4.The Chairperson invited the Rapporteur to present section B of Chapter II of the report entitled “Reports submitted by States parties under article 44 of the Convention and the Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict”, containing the Committee’s concluding observations on the reports submitted by Sweden, Austria, Togo, Bolivia, Nigeria, Albania, Luxembourg, the Bahamas, Belize and Iran.

5.Ms. Khattab (Rapporteur) outlined the Committee’s concluding observations on the reports submitted by Sweden, Austria, Togo, Bolivia and Nigeria.

6. The concluding observations on the third periodic report of Sweden were adopted.

Concluding observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child: Austria (CRC/C/15/Add.251 and CRC/C/OPAC/CO/2)

7. The concluding observations on the second periodic report submitted by Austria in accordance with the Convention and the concluding observations on the initial report submitted by Austria in accordance with the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict were adopted.

8. The concluding observations on the second periodic report of Togo were adopted.

Concluding observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child: Bolivia (CRC/C/15/Add.256)

9. The concluding observations on the third periodic report of Bolivia were adopted.

Concluding observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child: Nigeria (CRC/C/15/Add.257)

10. The concluding observations on the second periodic report of Nigeria were adopted.

11.The Chairperson outlined the concluding observations of the Committee on the reports submitted by Albania, Luxembourg, the Bahamas, Belize and Iran.

12. The concluding observations on the initial report of Albania were adopted.

13. The concluding observations on the second periodic report of Luxembourg were adopted.

14. The concluding observations on the initial report of the Bahamas were adopted.

15. The concluding observations on the second report of Belize were adopted.

Concluding observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child: Iran (CRC/C/15/Add.254)

16. The concluding observations on the second periodic report of Iran were adopted.

17.The Chairperson noted that the Committee had now adopted the whole of its report on its thirty-eighth session.

Closure of the session

18.The Chairperson paid tribute to Ms. Chutikul — who was not seeking reappointment on expiry of her mandate — for her valuable contribution to the work of the Committee, and thanked all those who had contributed to the success of the Committee’s thirty-eighth session.
