CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS SUBMITTED BY STATES PARTIES UNDER ARTICLE 73 OF THE CONVENTION (continued) (CMW/C/EGY/1)
Draft concluding observations on the initial report of Egypt (document without a symbol, distributed in the meeting room in English only)
1.Mr. EL JAMRI (Country Rapporteur) said that the Committee at its 50th and 51st meetings, held on 23 and 24 April 2007, had considered the initial report of Egypt (CMW/C/EGY/1). The draft concluding observations on that report, which followed the usual model for concluding observations used by other treaty bodies, contained some 25 recommendations addressed to the State party.
2.The CHAIRPERSON said that, if he heard no objection, he would take it that the Committee wished to adopt the draft concluding observations on the initial report of Egypt. He noted that the concluding observations, once adopted, would be included in the Committee’s annual report to the General Assembly (CMW/C/6/CRP.1/Rev.1).
3.The draft concluding observations on the initial report of Egypt, as a whole, were adopted.
ORGANIZATIONAL AND OTHER MATTERS (continued)
4.The CHAIRPERSON said that, given the number of reports received and reports to consider, the Committee had decided to request the Secretary-General to organize two sessions of the Committee in 2008, the first lasting two weeks, and the second, only one week. In conformity with rule 19 of the Committee’s provisional rules of procedure, before any proposal which involved expenditures was approved by the Committee, the Secretary-General should prepare and circulate to its members a written estimate of the cost involved in the proposal.
5.Ms. EDELENBOS (Secretary of the Committee) drew attention to the estimate of the additional expenditures ($88,400) involved in the Committee’s proposal to hold a first session lasting two weeks, rather than one week, in 2008.
6.The CHAIRPERSON took note of the estimate of additional expenditures, but indicated that the Committee wished to maintain its proposal because it was convinced of the need to hold a longer session in order to complete its work.
ADOPTION OF THE ANNUAL REPORT TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY (CMW/C/6/CRP.1/Rev.1)
7.The CHAIRPERSON drew attention to the Committee’s draft annual report to the General Assembly (CMW/C/6/CRP.1/Rev.1), noting that the annexes to the report would be added later.
8.The draft annual report to the General Assembly (CMW/C/6/CRP.1/Rev.1) was adopted.
CLOSURE OF THE SESSION
9.After the customary exchange of courtesies, the CHAIRPERSON declared the sixth session closed.
The meeting rose at 3.35 p.m.
