Annotations

1.Opening of the session

The representative of the Secretary-General will open the thirty-third session of the Committee.

2.Adoption of the agenda

In accordance with rule 5 of the Committee’s rules of procedure, the present annotated provisional agenda has been prepared by the Secretary-General in consultation with the Chair of the Committee.

In accordance with rule 6 of the Committee’s rules of procedure, the adoption of the agenda shall be the first item on the provisional agenda of any session, except where the election of officers is required pursuant to rule 13. In accordance with rule 7, the Committee may revise the agenda during a session and may, as appropriate, defer or delete items.

3.Organizational matters

The thirty-third session of the Committee will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 27 September to 8 October 2021, with meetings being held at Palais Wilson from 27 September to 1 October and at Palais des Nations from 4 to 8 October. The first meeting of the session will be convened on Monday, 27 September, at 10 a.m. at Palais Wilson.

The Committee will consider its programme of work as well as other issues relevant to its business, including the dates of its future sessions. (For the programme of work, please see the web page of the Committee.)

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the l ist of issues prior to reporting for Jamaica was adopted by the Committee during the intersessional period on 5 February 2021, and the list of issues prior to reporting for Nigeria on 1 February 2021.

5.Consideration of reports submitted by States parties under article 73 of the Convention

At its thirty-third session, the Committee will consider the second periodic report of Rwanda (CMW/C/RWA/2) and the third periodic report of Azerbaijan (CMW/C/AZE/3).

The Committee will adopt concluding observations on the reports of the above-mentioned States parties.

The Secretary-General will, in due course, inform the States parties concerned of the dates on which their reports are scheduled for consideration by the Committee, in accordance with its provisional programme of work.

6.Methods of work of the Committee

The Committee will discuss its methods of work, the harmonization of treaty body working methods and other issues arising from General Assembly resolution 68/268 on strengthening and enhancing the effective functioning of the human rights treaty body system.

7.Promotion of the Convention

The Committee will discuss its involvement in and support for various events and initiatives to continue promoting the Convention, including meetings with stakeholders, days of general discussion and the preparation of general comments.
