Organizational matters

1.The Chair said that, at its thirty-fifth session, the Committee had held interactive dialogues with high-level delegations from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Syrian Arab Republic, in in-person, remote and hybrid format, respectively, and had adopted concluding observations on the periodic reports of all three States parties. It had also adopted lists of issues prior to reporting for Senegal and Türkiye, as well as the follow-up report assessment letters concerning Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mexico and Tajikistan.

2.The Committee had been briefed by the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants regarding his forthcoming thematic report, the Committee’s proposed general comment and collaboration on commemorating International Migrants Day. The Committee had held a side event with the Committee on the Rights of the Child to commemorate the fifth anniversary of their joint general comment on State obligations regarding the human rights of children in the context of international migration in countries of origin, transit, destination and return.

3.In addition, the Committee had held a successful half-day of general discussion on its draft general comment on the convergence of the Convention and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, during which panellists representing United Nations agencies, academia and civil society had stressed the mutually reinforcing nature of the two instruments in advancing migration governance and promoting and protecting the rights of all migrants.

4.Lastly, the Committee had held in-depth discussions on its 2022–2023 workplan, how to intensify its ratification campaign, areas where it could harmonize its working methods with other treaty bodies, its partnership with Member States that promoted the implementation of the Convention and, through the Champion countries initiative, the Global Compact for Migration, as well as with civil society organizations and the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions, among others.

5.The Chair, following the customary exchange of courtesies, declared the thirty-fifth session of the Committee on Migrant Workers closed.
