Annotations
1.Adoption of the agenda
Under rule 9 of the Committee’s rules of procedure, the first item on the agenda of any session shall be the adoption of the agenda, unless the election of officers is required under rule 20. In accordance with rule 10, the Committee may revise the agenda during a session and may, as appropriate, add, defer or delete items.
The provisional agenda for the sixteenth session was prepared by the Secretary-General, in consultation with the Chair of the Committee, pursuant to rule 8 of the rules of procedure.
2.Organizational matters
The sixteenth session of the Committee will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva, in the ground floor conference room at Palais Wilson, from 15 August to 2 September 2016. The 1st meeting of the session will be convened on Monday, 15 August, at 10 a.m. A representative of the Secretary-General will open the session.
Pursuant to rule 29 of the rules of procedure, the meetings of the Committee shall be held in public session, unless otherwise decided by the Committee.
The Committee will consider matters concerning the organization of the sixteenth session, in particular the adoption of its programme of work, a draft of which is contained in the annex.
3.Report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the fifteenth and sixteenth sessions of the Committee
The Committee will consider the report of the Chair on activities undertaken between the fifteenth and sixteenth sessions.
4.Submission of reports by parties to the Convention under article 35
The Committee will be updated on the reports received from parties to the Convention under article 35. As at the time of issuance of the present provisional agenda, the following initial reports had been received and were pending consideration by the Committee:

5.Consideration of reports submitted by parties to the Convention under article 35
At its sixteenth session, the Committee will consider the initial reports of Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay.
In pursuance of established practice and in conformity with rule 41 of the rules of procedure, the Secretary-General has informed the parties concerned of the tentative dates on which their reports have been scheduled for consideration by the Committee. A schedule for the consideration of reports submitted is set forth in the tentative programme of work annexed hereto.
6.Adoption of lists of issues concerning reports of parties to the Convention
The Committee will adopt lists of issues on initial reports.
7.Cooperation with other United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, organizations of persons with disabilities and other competent bodies
The Committee will discuss how to strengthen cooperation with United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, non-governmental organizations, including organizations of persons with disabilities, and other competent bodies in order to enhance the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. Representatives of such organizations and bodies may seek to address the Committee.
8.General comments
The Committee will review the progress made by the working groups established to draft the general comments decided by the Committee. To date, the Committee has decided to establish working groups on women with disabilities (art. 6), the right to live independently and to be included in the community (art. 19) and the right to education (art. 24).
9.Methods of work of the Committee
The Committee will consider its methods of work.
10.Future meetings
The Committee will be informed of any developments relating to its future meetings. It will also consider the organization of its future work.
11.Implementation of General Assembly resolution 68/268 on strengthening and enhancing the effective functioning of the human rights treaty body system
The Committee will consider the implementation of General Assembly resolution 68/268 on strengthening and enhancing the effective functioning of the human rights treaty body system.
12.Activities under the Optional Protocol to the Convention
The Committee will consider the complaints submitted under the Optional Protocol to the Convention and the conduct of inquiries.
13.Adoption of the report on the sixteenth session
Pursuant to rule 38 bis of its rules of procedure, the Committee may consider and adopt the report on its sixteenth session.
